Without a doubt, word processing is the easiest and most common activity for home offices to automate. Enables you to create, edit, and print any document, letter, report, spread sheet, or articles easily. Save your documents to use another day. Make changes quickly. Now you can focus on improving the quality of your finished product instead of the chore of re-typing. You can even convert your document instantly into a pdf file with the touch of a button.

More Than Microsoft

Most people will associate word processing with Microsoft Word, Excel, or Coral's WordPerfect. But they may not be the best options for your business. Especially if your just starting out and want to keep your expenses down. Which would make obtaining free word processing a viable and necessary option. Freeware does not mean sacrificing function for price. Still enabling you to work efficiently, while maintaining the professional quality you require.

Commonly used for budgets, forcasting sales, or accounting. A must for analyzing financial information. Eliminates repetitive work. Makes getting organized easy.

While Excel has a good spreadsheet program, there are several office suite options that are worth researching that you can get for free.

Office Suites

There are two free office suite options that have the capabilities of the word processing components and more. Performing almost any task. Going beyond simple word processing. Such as embedding pictures, creating tables, opening almost any type of text document. Including spread sheets, email capabilities and one program can even convert your document to a pdf file with the press of a button.

OpenOffice has a mail manager, word processor, spreadsheet, data base manager, slide show designer, calculator, PDF creator, and a chart designer. Providing powerful features that other programs charge you hundreds of dollars for.

I use this program almost every day. Great program to help you keep organized. Has simple templates that you can create for documents, keeping lists, planning, or even tracking inventory.

StarOffice in another program worth looking into. While the interface can take some getting used to, it was intended to compete with Microsoft's Office.
