Money Saving Ideas

First, before you make any purchase there are three important questions you will want to ask yourself.

1 - Is this expense really necessary? Can I get it or something similar for less?

2 - Will this expense contributing to your wealth? Or is it taking away from it?

3 - Are you making this purchase as planned? or on impulse?

Impulse Buying

If it is a impulse purchase, (not on you shopping list) can you put it off for 24 hours? Or even better yet wait 7 days?

Why wait your wondering?

Think about it. How may purchases have you made, then a couple of days later, decided it was not what you really thought it would be, you didn't really want it anymore, or found it for much less?

Since I started using thinking more about my purchases, I've really cut down my expenses dramatically.

Whenever I come across something that I want to buy, I put it on a list. I wait 24 hours. If I still want to purchase it, I put keep it on my list to evaluate at the end of a week. At the end of the week, if I still feel I want or need it, I make a plan.

  • I see if I can get the same thing, or similar for less. Sometimes, I find I can get the same item for anywhere from 50% to 90% off.
  • Then I would include the item in my planned purchases or save up for the purchases.

How Much Would You Want to Pay?

On May 1, there was a new book that was released by Gloria Copeland. I enjoy reading her books. For this new release, the original purchase price was I think about $19. for the hardcover. When I checked at the middle of June it was about $9. on half.com. As of July 24, 2008, you could get a copy for $1.00.

Apparently they did a great job marketing the book, since a lot of people purchased book, read it, and then listed it for sale online. Why not, especially if you probably won't read it again.

This just one example, and this doesn't always happen this quickly, but sometimes it does.

You don't have to sacrifice quality of life living within your means.

So who do you want to be? The one paying $19. or $1.?
