How to Complete the
Operational Business Plan
Section of Your
Business Action Plan...





The next section when developing business plans is the Operational Business Plan. Providing the specific internal operational plans for your product or service.

What to Include?

The following areas that should be addressed in the operational plans section:
  • Physical Location
  • Equipment
  • Employees
  • Manufacturing or Service Process
  • Distribution Plan
  • Quality Control


Physical Location

Provide the physical address information. Include the square footage of the space utilized. Is it your home, office, or warehouse? What is the advantage of its location? Include the layout of your business.

Equipment

Outline and describe the equipment needed for your business. Be sure to include vehicles, computers, and office equipment. How will each piece be utilized? Indicate the cost, and number of pieces.

Are you planning to purchase or lease your equipment? Why and from whom?

Employees

Do you need any employees? If you won't have any employees in the beginning, when would you be ready to hire someone? Will you work full time or part time? How many hours?

If you need employees, how many employees will you need? Will they work full time or part time. Include the amount of hours and pay. Include management, sales, administration. Where will you locate your employees? What job skills will they need? What is included in their job duties?




Manufacturing & Service Process

What are the steps of your manufacturing or service process? From a widget to an e-book. Describe the work flow process.

From raw material through product completion. Physical product or informational product. Include where you will obtain raw or partially completed product. Include drop shippers. your suppliers.

Account for all direct and indirect production costs. Include taxes, installation, maintenance, etc. Where will you store the finished product? What systems will you have in place to track and store inventory? How much lead time do you need?

Distribution Plan

A distribution plan should be specific to your business. Tells how your going to get your product or service out to your target market. How orders will be filled. Describe the steps including shipping procedures.. Include a description of parking and transportation access.

Quality Control

Include the details on how quality control be implemented? How will customer feedback be addressed and by whom?

If you rely on goods or materials for your business, keep a good relationship with your suppliers. And do not become too dependent on just one supplier.
