Market Research
You'll need to identify your potential customers and discover what they are looking for. To be successful. You can determine the need for your service, a product's likelihood to sell. Your target-market. Even where to locate. Either Online, Offline, or both. Determine if your idea has long term growth potential. to go the distance. There are numerous ways to uncover this information.From online research to focus groups. The Internet has made it easier and less expensive to conduct market research. You can even set up a chat room to conduct your own online focus group interviews. It's crucial to analyze and target your market before you waste any money that won't get you the results you're looking for.
Demand

and click on the bottom left under advertising. And research your idea. Enter the main keyword for your idea and see what develops. Consider the additional keywords that come up to give you more ideas. Now if you happen to be a home school mom who loves to read. Type in the word "Reading" in the Keyword box. You'll find there is a large demand for reading. Probably too much demand to tryto compete for, but if you keep looking, you'll find niche' that could be profitable...teach others to read, speed reading, reading strategies, and maybe reading games. E-books. Reading glasses. Kiddle...
Competition
Find something with enough demand to make a profit, with a relatively low supply to fill that demand. Having a specific niche or market would be to your advantage. That way you're not all competing for the same dollar. Having some competition is good but you wouldn't want to go head to head with someone with an unlimited budget. Know your competition! This will effect your prices and profit margins. Find out the going rate. Start a list of all competitors with similar services. List their prices, strengths, and weaknesses. Can you come up with products or services that would compliment what your competitors are doing? Or maybe a unique spin to what they are already doing?
Knowledge
How much knowledge do you know about your idea and market? An area you have a lot of personal knowledge. A hobby or sport your been involved in for years. Or an interest you just recently discovered...Do you have a special skill that you can teach or share with others? Will you have to do a lot of research to increase your skills? Find out where you can learn the information or skills you lack. Or hire someone who does!

Passion
Is your idea something you could get passionate about? Can you convey your excitement to others?If you like what you do and are passionate about it your will be far more likely to have success. Have fun and earn money too!
