Smart Goal Setting

Are You Frustrated and Disappointed with the Direction Your Life is Headed...Here is 7 steps to help You Live a More Fulfilling Life Instead.

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well."
- Diane Ackerman

Goals are crucial for success in any business.

Anyone without clear-cut goals in life is destined to go in circles, always frustrated. Never getting anywhere.

Everyone has setbacks, but setting clear goals for yourself, makes it easier to get through those times of disappointment, and frustration. Making it easier to keep going toward your goal.

Developing Your Skill

Like any other skill, goal setting takes practice before mastering. If you have a problem with setting goals, avoiding defeat, negativism, here are a couple of suggestions that will help you to mastering your goal setting skills:

1 - Give goal setting a lot of thought. Goals can range from small specific goals to broad general goals. Decide how many goals you can handle. Long and short term. Be realistic about the amount of time and effort it may take you to achieve your goals. Are they worth the price you will have to pay? Now, make sure you write you goals down so you can refer to them later if you need to.

2 - Write your goals down. You can refer to them later to review or make any changes if you need to. Successful people have their goals written down. While most people believe that setting goals are important, less than 5% of us write our goals down. Never mind having a plan to achieving their goals.

3 - Commit to do your best. When you make a commitment to your goals, make the most of what talents and gifts that you do have to achieve your goals. Your determination to do your best in everything you do, will get you much closer to getting the results you want than someone who more talented, but lacks the drive or determination to reach their goals. Even if you are waiting for your goals to reveal themselves, do the best you can where you are currently, and your path will become clear.

4 - Learn the difference between a goal and a wish. Simply wishing for something isn't going to make it happen. An obtainable goal must be backed up with a definite plan. A plan with defined steps to achieving your goal. Include a time table. Then take the necessary action needed to achieve your goals. For example, if you wanted to pay off your credit card debt, write down how much additional money you will need to put toward paying it off each month. Then how you will find the money each month.

5 - Prepare for your long term goals by achieving short term goals. Bigger long term goals are easier and more likely to achieve when they are broken down into small realistic steps. Work toward your goal. Step-by-step.

Similar to planning a website. The completed website is the ultimate goal. But a website can only be achieved one page at a time. Without a plan, where do you start. What do you include? When do you end. With planning Maybe your plan is to have 5 sections, with 5 pages in each section.

It may seam daunting especially if it is something you have never done before. Instead of focusing the whole 25 pages, instead focus on completing one page in one section at a time. When you are done with one section, go to the next. Before you know it, you will have your website completed and your goal achieved.

6 - Choose goals that benefit others as well as yourself. You may have a goal to start a business making a lot of money. That is a great goal. But why do you want to make a lot of money? Just to have a lot of money? Or is it to have the ability to help other people in some way? If it is don't let anyone talk you out of your goal.

7 - Now do it! It is worth taking the time to make plans to achieve your goals, but without action, you are just wasting your time. So no matter what your goal, take that first step. Never give up. Never looking back.

"No wind favors him who has no destined port." - Michel de Montaigne
