- Your personality. Your strengths and weaknesses. What is natural for you.
- Life history. Patterns and skills from your work and education history.
- Abilities. What skills, talents, and knowledge you possess. Most moms don't give much thought to the skills running a household requires.
- Your interests. What do you enjoy doing most? Do you have any hobbies?
- Your values. What are you passionate about?
The Steps
Having a clear understanding of your skills and qualities makes it easier to understand how to maximize your potential. In any area of your life. To seek out what you do best, and enjoy the most... There are three perspectives that you can use to help give you a clear picture of both: - Self-Assessment
- Community Assessment
- Professional Assessment
Self Assessment
This first assessment can be done similar to a resume. Make a list of your previous jobs. Not the company names or addresses. The focus should be on the descriptions and details of your previous jobs. Don't forget to include the skill you use at home! Here's an example of a job you could have had: Ordered policies changes, renewals, answered phone and mail inquires. Trained co-workers on computer system and improving job skills.
And your household skills: Scheduling family activities. Household finances.
Just from these examples alone, you would see clerical, phone, customer, computer, teaching, scheduling, and accounting skills. You'll probably want to list your observations on a separate page. Now, do the same for your life experiences, education, sports, hobbies...
Community Assessment
You should ask a few people. Friends or family who know you pretty well. Ask them how they see you. Your strengths and skills. You may discover things you didn't give much thought before.
Professional Assessment
Part of the professional assessment process includes taking a personality test. I found a free personality test that is also easy to use. Providing detailed information.
The Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II (KTS-II)
. A coach or counselor can help you sort and interpret the results if you are still unclear.
